Can you spend your whole life with a guard up? The Wanderer is another great read from the Indie Shawn Maravel! I waited eagerly to have the semester to end so that I could give my full attention to the book. The book was well worth the wait. Landon is a lost, guarded soul who has had been through a lot in his 35 years of living. He is released from the military after serving not one, but a few leaves in the middle east. Landon doesn't do well with sitting still on one spot in life as he now embarks on a new adventure, taking his new motorcycle across country. On the road Landon tries to push aside the life he knew in the Army yet no real aim in his travels. He meets an arraying kinds of people along his way especially Max. Max is an owner of a Motorcycle shop who gives Landon a run for his money, challenging him just as he always had done to those around him. The two bond together with the similar personality trait of not letting people in that gives Landon a new view, does he stay with her or does he hit the road. The Wanderer is yet another great work from Shawn Maravel that will have the readers sympathizing with the characters as the book goes on.Tags : The Wanderer [Shawn Kirsten Maravel] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Wanderer Shawn Kirsten Maravel 9781461017172 Books Reviews
Let me say first and formost I seldom read fiction anymore andI have never read any kind of love story before. I am a retired military guy who spent 4 years in the USMC and 19 years in the Army including 51/2 years in the 82nd Airborne. I nincluded this info to convince everyone that this is not my type of genre. I would normally never even think to read a book like this. The author Shawn Maravel and her husband have a shared life experience with me as her husband is a soldier who has been deployed several times and she has experienced life as an Army spouse with all the sacrifices that entails. I needed a break from all the non-fiction books I had been reading and decided to give "The Wanderer" a try. I wasn't sure what to expect or if I would even be able to finish it. To tell you the truth once I started reading it, I had trouble putting it down, Shawn did such a great job that this book touched me deeply. I understand the main character Landon all too well, without giving too much away, he has experienced losing a best friend in battle and feels the emptiness that it brings. He has always been a loner and when a woman gets too close he is gone, without looking back, until he finally meets somebody named Max while he is on his way to Oregon to deliver a message to the parents of his deceased best friend, 8 years later. Max gets him in ways that are troubling too him. I am not going to give anymore of this book away because it is a book that I would recommend to everybody to read, especially all my fellow soldiers I served with over the years. Shawn cleverly in the story drops hints to Landon that he made a mistake, and the irony is with an old man he meets on the way, I just smiled after reading that part, you have to read it to figure out what I am talking about. It is a fantastic read and has made me want to raed fiction again. It was a great escape, and reminded me some times it's great to lose yourself in a great book. Shawn Thank you so much for writing this book, I am honored and grateful to have read it well done!!(less)
"There's something in your eyes that scares me,"
Max whispired, looking through the window.
Landon took her face into his hand and made her look into his eyes "What?" he asked. "What do you see?"
"Fear," she answered plainly. "I see fear"
Shawn Maravel has become one of my favorite authors, The Wanderer..she did not disappoint! The Wanderer follows Landon Bradley, Landon has just finished his time in the military, he doesn't have family, and has never known what it feels like to call a place home or to settle with anyone long enough for them to get close to him. Now that he is out of the military his plan is to travel around and go where ever the open road takes him.
While cruising along one day on his motorcycle , he crashes and ruins his bike, he is now going to have to stay in this small Wyoming town till his bike is up and running for the road again, he expects this is going to be along wait...he doesn't expect Maxine also known as Max, Max is different, Landon can't understand what it is about her, all he knows is she gets to him, like no girl ever has.
By the time Landon realizes what it is he feels for Max...it may be too late.
The Wanderer was amazing! I'm just gonna flat out say it was incredible. The characters are so real, the emotions are so raw. I am not much of a cryer in books, but this book still got me choked up, twice! Landon and Maxine both have gone threw alot of lost in their lives, and threw out the story you really get to know each of them and see there development threw their lost. This story had a wonderful romance, and wonderful character development. I loved Shawns Volition series, but I gotta say with The Wanderer she completly out did herself! I read this book in one sitting! I couldn't put it down if my life depended on it!
To make a long story short I really loved this book, the characters are so likeable, the romance is amazing, everything is wonderful, if you have not yet picked up any of Shawns books, pick up The Wanderer, you will not be disappointed (
I enjoyed this book and story line was very easy to follow. Very emotional and touching. Would recommend this book.
